Racing from an Early Age
The founder and owner of Fountain Powerboats, Reggie Fountain, entered his first boat race at the age of 14. In 1970, Fountain entered into professional competition and, one year later, was honored as the Outstanding New Driver at one of the most prestigious speedboat racing events of the time, the Lake Havasu World Championships.
Fountain competed in 201 races. Winning 101.
The other 100 consisted of eight crashes, and a lot of seconds and thirds and fourths.
Fountain also focused on setting speed marks on a kilometer-long course on the Pamlico River. The records might have been more important than all the racing when it came to selling boats to the public.
